Things I Learned This Christmas…

I learned a valuable lesson or two this Christmas.  It doesn’t matter if I ruined the !@#$ing yeast rolls, or forgot the homemade cranberry sauce in the fridge at home.  It doesn’t matter if I broke my necklace while getting dressed, or that I delayed the meal by 30 minutes because of the three hours I spent on those !@$#ing yeast rolls.  What matters is that I have someone in my life who was not afraid to step smack dab in the middle of the madness and offer his help wherever needed.  Not only did he whip up a damn fine sweet potato casserole, but his presence in the kitchen calmed me down a little bit.

After conferring with Guitar Dude’s mom and deciding it must’ve been bad yeast, and her pulling a can of cranberry sauce from the fridge to save the day, and knocking back a couple of Jack and Cokes, our Christmas was a merry one indeed.  The spread was absolutely delicious.  Cornish hens, my green bean casserole, their family sweet potato casserole, stuffing and a dreamy coconut cake.  Thankfully it was almost bedtime when we finished dessert because I needed a nap.

I hope y’alls Christmas was every bit as merry, mishaps and all!  If you take nothing else from this post, take this piece of advice – never try a new recipe on a holiday.  Ever.  Trust me.  Oh, and yeast rolls suck.
